Hacking GPS can become great risk for offshore industry

Bram Masselink was interviewed by BNR news radio on cyber security risk for maritime and offshore industry. Potential impact of hacks on GPS signals could be huge in cases of offshore DP operations.

According to New Scientist reports of satellite navigation problems in the Black Sea suggest that Russia may be testing a new system for spoofing GPS. This could potentially also provide the possibility of spoofing GPS for DP drillships, pipe-laying vessels and other critical assets that require accurate and secure GPS coordinates.
